Case Study: City West Substation

Scope: Installation of a new Disconnecting Circuit Breaker.

STE Solutions were awarded the contract to install a Disconnecting Circuit Breaker at the City West Substation as part of the Electranet Trial and Assessment process for new plant and equipment.
These works consisted of providing the resources to unpack, assemble and install the new circuit breaker and to earth the structure to the existing earthing system within the substation. Once installed and earthed the circuit breaker was connected to the existing AC and DC power supplies.
The works were successfully performed without any incidents being recorded and to the satisfaction of the client.
Case Study: Kanmantoo Substation

Scope: Installation of a new Power Transformer

STE Solutions were contracted to assist Consolidated Power Projects with the installation of a new power transformer at the Kanmantoo substation on behalf of Electranet. These works included the planning and operation of a switching programme to de-energise and re-energise the plant, site management of the civil contractor, site management of the ABB Australia transformer installation crew and the site management of all other labour.
These works were successfully performed without incident and the transformer placed into service.
Case Study: Parafield Gardens West Substation

Scope: Replacement of existing Oiltap diverter switch with Vacutap diverter switch

STE Solutions were contracted by Electranet to plan, programme and manage the retrofit of the existing OLTC diverter switch on the Alstom 275/132/22kV power transformer at the Parafield Gardens West substation.
These works consisted of planning of the required outage schedule, HV switching operations, sub-contractor management, procurement, site management, transformer oil pumping and management, the modifications to the existing oil pipework and the installation of dehydrating breathers.
These works were performed over a five day period and during this time there were no reportable incidents, no medical treatment injuries or lost time injuries recorded. The plant was returned to service successfully at the completion of the modifications.
Similar works were conducted on two power transformers at the Morphett Vale East Substation with the same results.
Case Study: Berri Substation

Scope: Installation of 66kv and 132kV Current Transformers and Circuit Breakers

STE Solutions were engaged to replace the defective existing voltage transformers at the Berri distribution substation for SA Power Networks.

Case Study: Blyth West Substation

STE Solutions were engaged by CPP to conduct the testing of the high voltage plant at the newly constructed Blyth West 275kV Substation. This substation was constructed to enhance the electricity supply to the surrounding district as well as being the grid connection point for the new Snowtown II Wind Farm.
The equipment tested included but was not limited to the following items of plant:
- 33/275kV Power Transformer
- 275kV Circuit Breakers
- 275kV Current Transformers
- 275kV Voltage Transformers
High Voltage Switching:
STE Solutions were instrumental in the development of the switching procedures which were required to energise the new substation and enable the Snowtown II wind farm to transmit the electricity generated by its wind turbines into the Electranet grid.

Power System Pollution Monitoring Upgrades

This upgrade required the removal of the existing Qualitrol IDM T5 recorders and the installation and commissioning of Ametek TR 1200 recorders.

Lonsdale Traction Power System

Installation of the earth grid at the Lonsdale substation
STE Solutions were contracted to install the earth grid component of the Lonsdale substation construction, these works included civil works, material procurement, installation and testing.
All works complied with the relevant Australian Standards, Regulations and Design Standards.
Earthing conductor was installed and terminated to all steel structures within the new substation by means of “Cad-Welds” and terminations.
